Inspect the optical lens, buttons, and any included accessories such as the target card or tripod thread. If your model has a side laser alignment, confirm it projects cleanly on a nearby wall.
Install fresh AA or AAA batteries (check polarity) or fully charge via USB-C before first use. Never charge the device with dry batteries. In cold weather, keep a spare set of batteries in your pocket.
The default measurement unit is imperial. To switch to metric or split, go to the Setting menu, find Unit, and switch to your preferred unit.
Rear: Ideal for measuring from inside corners or against walls—the device automatically includes its body length in the total measurement.
Front: Best for measuring from edges or open surfaces where the device’s front aligns with the starting point.
Tripod: Recommended for long-distance or outdoor measurements, providing a stable base and ensuring consistent accuracy.
Measure 10 ft and 25 ft against a matte target and confirm with a tape measure. Repeat this check after drops or transport.
In bright outdoor environments, use a matte target card, delayed capture, and brace your elbows for stability. For long distances, mounting on a tripod helps.
Place a small square of blue painter’s tape or the supplied target card at the landing point and measure to that.
